The Special Adviser to the State Governor, Mr. Gabriel Okulaja has informed
US that the Federal Government’s ‘home grown school feeding programme’ could commence in the state by next week Wednesday, October 25
th.
Mr. Okulaje made this known yesterday in an exclusive chat with
GISTNAIJA BLOG correspondent in his office.
Stating the State’s readiness to kick-start the programme, Mr. Gabriel disclosed that all arrangements have been finalized and that upon the governor’s endorsement of the proposed kick-off date, October 25
th would have primary school pupils of class 1 – 3 in the state fed a square meal.
According to Mr. Gabriel, the programme would, on a daily basis feed the said classes of pupils with a meal valued for fifty-five naira (N55) once in a day.
The program which is one of President Buhari’s social development and anti-malnutrition drive nationwide is aimed at ensuring that the Nigerian child did not stay away from school for an excuse of food; children who leave their homes on empty stomachs are encouraged and that every Nigerian child had at least one balanced diet a day – an idea for the combat of malnutrition which is gradually becoming a nationwide phenomenon.
Vendors… The programme would have a segment of stakeholders called ‘vendors’ who would be paid N70 per meal and tasked to cook and serve not more than 100 and not less than 70 pupils. Of the N7o paid per meal, the State Coordinator of the programme and Gov. Ben Ayade’s SA, Mr. Gabriel Okulaje said every vendor will take home N15 per meal of the N70 paid; Hence, a child is fed a N55 meal a day.
Menu…The children will be served chicken burger plus fruit on Mondays; Chicken/fish & rice (yam/potatoe/plantain) plus vegetable on Tuesdays; Cassava flakes & soy bean powder plus fruit on Wednesday; Noodles & egg plus fruit on Thursdays; and Milk & Energy biscuit plus fruit on Fridays for the first week. These diets, Mr. Gabriel said would be rotated within the weeks of the month.
Payment…The vendors,
GISTNAIJA BLOG understands would be paid within 20 days intervals and according to the total number of meals they are to feed.
