Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) dicslosed that in June this year, the internet users and data subscribers in Nigeria's telecommunications networks slightly increased by 33,747 new users.
Telco networks like 9Mobile - formerly called Etisalat, - and Glo didn't add any value to the increment, as reports revealed that Airtel and MTN gained more internet subscribers during the month, while Glo and 9mobile lost so many of them.
NCC Monthly Internet Subscribers Data revealed the total number of internet users in the month of May were 91,565,010, which increased by
33,747 to 91, 598,757 in June.
MTN, which played a huge roll in the increment by
revamping some data plans and in many other ways increased its data subscribers to 31,691,070 from 31,406,441 in May, accounting for
284, 629new users.
Globacom, who has the cheapest data plans lost
218,482 internet users probably due to poor network conditions. Thereby having just 27,184,002 data subscribers remaining on its network in June, against 27,402,484 internet users they had in May.
Airtel network, which had 19,912,661 in May, gained the most with
261, 428 new internet users. The telco now have 20,174,089 internet users. Congrats!
9mobile, the financially troubled network, formerly known as Etisalat had 12,843,424 internet users in May, but the telco now have 12,549,596 users in June. This shows that
293,828 data subscribers left the network, recording the highest lost.
Countless number of time, we've urged Glo to improve her network, and 9Mobile to increase her
data plan value which is the poorest in the country. But it all fell on deaf ears. Now the result is clear!
